The Emory University Libraries are implementing an aggressive strategic
plan to build a next generation library with an infrastructure that
supports new forms of pedagogy and new systems for the creation and
dissemination of knowledge. We seek a chief information technologist
with vision, systems thinking, proven leadership and management
abilities, a collaborative style and entrepreneurial spirit to lead the
implementation of new digital technologies and systems for all of the
university libraries. First among the projects for the new chief
information technologist will be the development and implementation of
next generation search, discovery and delivery tools. Emory is a charter
implementation site for the Primo portal software application. The
position reports to the Vice Provost and Director of Libraries and is
accountable to the council of directors of all Emory Libraries (see

Responsibilities:
The Chief Information Technologist for the Emory University Libraries
will:
*	be the architect of libraries-wide systems;
*	lead the strategic planning, development, implementation, and
management of integrated search, discovery and delivery systems across
all libraries;
*	manage teams and other library/ IT staff from across the library
system; 
*	assess the effectiveness of systems in meeting pedagogical and
research needs across all libraries;
*	research, recommend, and implement new technologies to enhance
and transform the user experience with information resources; 
*	promote innovation and be responsive to stakeholders,
communicating and collaborating with staff in all libraries, university
technology services, and other partners; and, 
*	contribute to and be highly active in local, consortial,
regional, and national meetings to stay abreast of technology
developments/trends and to represent Emory Libraries.

Qualifications: 
*	Advanced degree required in computer science,
library/information science, or related discipline. 
*	Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in
information technology in an academic or research environment. 
*	Experience with integrating library systems and services and
developing digital library technologies.
*	Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in digital library
services, ability to assess marketplace trends, and the ability to
translate knowledge into vision and strategy.
*	Applied knowledge of network architectures and systems
administration for large complex systems, software applications, web
development, portals and content management systems. 
*	Project management experience, proven leadership abilities,
systems thinking and effective management skills.
*	Demonstrated knowledge of usability studies and assessment
methods.
*	Effective skills in facilitation, consensus building, creative
problem solving and use of a team- based approach to achieving success.
*	Ability to build effective and collaborative partnerships within
Emory and with external partners.

Salary and Benefits: Salary at a senior leadership level;
faculty-equivalent position with rank. Salary and rank based on
