 POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION&#58;   Theology Librarian, Information & Research Services
Department
Summary&#58;  The Theology Librarian is responsible for the development of
the collection and programs, provision of  informational resources and
instructional services in the areas of religion, theology, and philosophy,
to the faculties, staff, and students of the Atlanta University Center
member institutions in general and specifically to the faculty, staff, and
students of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC).  The Theology
Librarian serves as library liaison for all aspects of the academic program
at ITC and as the liaison for religious studies at the other member
institutions of the Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University
Center (RWWL). The Interdenominational Theological Center is a graduate
theological seminary with a student population of returning adult learners
and a growing distance learning program.  In this liaison role,
opportunities may also exist for leadership in editorial activities of the
Journal of the Interdenominational Theological Center.    
Essential Duties&#58;
&middot;Serve as liaison librarian for academic programs in subject areas
at the RWWL-AUC member institutions, including the ITC.  Includes&#58;
* Provision of reference, research, instruction, and consultation services
to RWWL-AUC member institutions and faculty in subject area
* Facilitate lines of communication between library and teaching faculty
for purposes of promoting quality access and use to library resources and
services
* Serve on relevant committees and attend meetings at member schools as
requested
* Conduct programming to promote collection resources of the library and
the aca* Provide virtual reference assistance and contribute to the
maintenance of web resources 
&middot;Serve as the library liaison to faculty, staff and students for
the ITC distance learning program.  Includes&#58;
oProvision of reference, research, instruction, and consultation services
oDevelopment of instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials,
and other resources to optimize utilization and understanding of subject
areas and library resources
oDevelopment of the theological collection (religion, theology,
philosophy) in a variety of formats in accord with the Library's
Collection Development Policy and professional standards in support of
distance learning
&middot;Develop the theological collection (religion, theology,
philosophy) in all formats in accord with the Library's Collection
Development Policy; including recommendations for selection and
de-selection titles in consultation with the faculties as appropriate to
maintain current and viable collection
&middot;Develop instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials,
and other resources to optimize utilization and understanding of subject
areas and library resources. In particular, work with colleagues to
develop resources and instructional strategies appropriate for returning
adult graduate school learners at the Interdenominational Theological
Center
&middot;Promote availability of archival materials on the Black Church for
its African and Afro-Caribbean roots and connections for scholarly
research.
Teach library instruction and collaborate with teaching faculty to
integrate learning objectives into course syllabi 
&middot;Participate in reference service delivery and  desk rotation
schedule (evening and week-end)
&middot;Participate in grant development and implementation
&middot;Participate in the development, implementation, and assessment of
library services, policies, procedures, and publications
&middot;Participate in library-wide initiatives through committees and
task forces
&middot;Participate in activities in support of accreditation at the
institutional and departmental levels
&middot;Establish collaborative relationships with other institutions for
purposes of scholarly discourse, collection development and benchmarking
of library resources and services
QUALIFICATIONS&#58;
&middot;Two to three years experience performing reference and instruction
services in an academic or special library
&middot;Demonstrated knowledge of theology, religion and philosophy or
other appropriate humanities subject areas
&middot;Knowledge of appropriate foreign languages (e.g. Greek , Hebrew)
&middot;Demonstrated commitment to working in a culturally diverse
environment
&middot;Familiarity with appropriate digital technologies
&middot;Evidence of scholarship and&#47;or professional activity
&middot;Excellent oral and written communication skills
&middot;Excellent organizational and analytical skills 
EDUCATION &#47; EXPERIENCE&#58;
&middot;ALA-accredited graduate degree in library science and a graduate
degree in theological studies or another pertinent discipline required
&middot;Grant writing experience desirable
&middot;Public service experience in an academic library preferred
&middot;Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and teach library
instruction of essential theology resources in all formats
&middot;Experience in web page content management preferred

Salary commensurate with experience; benefits include medical, dental,
