Digital Initiatives Librarian

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head, Scholarly Communication and Digital Services, the
Digital Initiatives Librarian coordinates selected digital initiatives
projects related to the overall management of the digital intellectual
output of Georgia Tech, and the digital conversion of library and
archival collections. Current digital initiatives include: SMARTech
institutional repository service and EPAGE publishing initiative. The
work includes, but is not limited to: designing, supervising and
overseeing quality control of the workflow and technical production
processes needed to establish and maintain digital initiatives
operations; maintaining awareness of new metadata practices and managing
relevant metadata standards usage and compliance; maintaining awareness
of scholarly communication and digital conversion copyright issues;
working closely with other Scholarly Communication and Digital Services,
Systems, and Technology Development and Research staff and other
university faculty and staff in a collaborative work environment to
carry out digital initiatives projects; providing information training
and support to improve the overall knowledge of web-based technologies
known by the library faculty and staff; and keeping aware of new
standards, technologies, and applications and adopting them for library
use as appropriate.

Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library and information
science. Knowledge of current digital library technologies, standards
and best practices. Experience with one or more major descriptive
metadata
standards: EAD, METS, MODS, PREMIS, Dublin Core, or others. Excellent
organizational skills with aptitude for, and evidence of, complex
analytical and detailed work. Ability to work enthusiastically,
independently, as well as collaboratively, in a rapidly changing
environment. Ability to provide effective individual and group training.
Demonstrated aptitude for computer technology. Demonstrated interest in
professional activities.

Preferred: 2-3 years experience creating and implementing digital
collections, including digital image and text creation. Knowledge and
experience with institutional repository management. Three years of
academic library experience. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated
ability to plan, initiate, and implement effective programs, projects,
and services. Familiarity with one or more of the following: XML, UNIX,
library automation software applications, database design and
development, scripting languages such as Perl and/or PHP, web-authoring
tools, and web page development.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary and level of appointment are based on qualifications and
experience. Minimum salary is $42,000. Librarians are members of the
General Faculty and are non-tenured. The benefits package includes 21
days vacation, 12 paid holidays, 12 days sick leave, health/dental
insurance options, and retirement options including TIAA/CREF.
