Assistant Director for Library Relations --  ARTstor -- New York
 


Assistant Director for Library Relations, ARTstor
New York, NY

ARTstor's Assistant Director for Library Relations will have primary
responsibility for expanding participation in the ARTstor Digital Library
among institutions of higher education in the United States and worldwide,
and among K-12 schools. As a member of the ARTstor senior management team,
the Assistant Director will also work with other members of ARTstor's
senior staff in developing related services to be provided by ARTstor, and
in establishing organizational strategies, goals and policies with respect
to participation and other matters.  The Assistant Director will manage
two Library Relations staff members.
Because ARTstor relies on a common outreach infrastructure for Library
Relations services, built to serve JSTOR, ARTstor, Portico, and Aluka, the
Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of Library
Relations (JSTOR, ARTstor, Portico, and Aluka) and will work in close
consultation with the Executive Director of ARTstor and other ARTstor
senior staff.
The Assistant Director must be able to work as an integral member of a
fast-paced, intelligent and friendly team, and dedicate
himself&#47;herself to supporting outreach&#47;participation goals of the
ARTstor Library Relations team.  This position will require significant
travel time (~30%), including international travel, and will demand a
self-motivated, organized, team player. The Assistant Director must be
comfortable in interacting with a range of individuals, including faculty,
librarians and their staff, visual resource professionals, information
technology specialists, administrators, students and others.  Excellent
written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate about
and demonstrate ARTstor's software environment and technological
developments are required.  Previous sales and marketing experience in the
higher education marketplace is imperative.  Previous engagement with the
library community would be helpful.  Some background in art history or a
related field would be beneficial.  Bachelor's degree required.
Primary duties&#58; 
1.Work with the Director of Library Relations and the Executive Director
of ARTstor to set participation and revenue targets on an annual basis;
2.Develop and communicate ARTstor key value messages for the higher
education and K-12 communities
3.Work with the ARTstor Director of Strategic Outreach and User Services
to inform the higher education and K-12 communities of ARTstor's mission,
and about the various services provided by ARTstor; 
4.Help identify new participation and revenue opportunities in the global
academic community;
5.Facilitate participation in ARTstor at the institutional level (via the
Library) by providing librarians with useful strategies for promoting
ARTstor as a campus-wide resource; 
6.In coordination with ARTstor User Services and the Marketing
Communications Coordinator, outline and participate in ARTstor's presence
at conferences, meetings, and workshops;
7.In coordination with the Director of Library Relations, the Executive
Director of ARTstor and the ARTstor Director of Strategic Outreach and
User Services, identify appropriate speaking engagements and publishing
opportunities for ARTstor in the higher education, museum, and library
community.
Specific Duties and Projects&#58;
1.Work with the JSTOR Director for Library Relations to meet participation
and revenue goals on an annual basis;
2.Manage the activities of the two direct reports responsible for
assisting the Assistant Director in meeting the established participation
targets;
3.Gather and share library community feedback with the ARTstor Senior
Staff for the purposes of influencing organizational strategy;
4.Manage initial participation interest from the academic and research
community by&#58;
- Responding, via email and telephone, to participation inquiries  
- Tracking contact information and &quot;pipeline&quot; status in Talisma
- Guiding interested institutions through the participation process
- Negotiating and executing ARTstor Digital Library License Agreements
- Arranging appropriate invoicing requirements with Ithaka Finance
5.Participate in workshops&#47;meetings initiated by other Ithaka
affiliates (e.g. JSTOR, Portico, Aluka) where ARTstor outreach and
participation objectives would be enhanced;
Other Duties&#58;
1.Work closely with ARTstor's legal team to negotiate and finalize license
agreements with institutions;
2.Work closely with the Licensing Coordinator to facilitate the
appropriate tracking and maintenance of license agreements in the
Participation Database maintained by Library Relations;
3.Work closely with the  the Marketing&#47;Communications Coordinator and
the ARTstor User Experience Strategist to review and improve the various
forms of communication from ARTstor (letters, email, template messages,
web presence) on a regular basis to ensure that the appropriate message
and tone is conveyed in a consistent fashion;
4.Participate in the development and execution of ARTstor organizational
goals and ensure that those goals are reflected in the ARTstor Library
Relations goals established on an annual and monthly basis;
5.Work with ARTstor Senior Decision Support Analyst to coordinate ARTstor
Talisma institutional records; assist with updating and maintaining the
Talisma customer management system (entering new contact information and
maintaining an accurate history of ARTstor-related correspondence) as
needed;
6.Assist with the updating, editing and creating of all ARTstor marketing
materials (Word, Excel) on a regular basis;
7.Coordinate with the Marketing Communications Coordinator and ARTstor
User Services on the planning, preparation and execution of ARTstor
mailings to the library community;
8.Participate in regular Library Relations unit meetings and ARTstor
Senior Staff meetings; participate in other organizational meetings as
needed.
