Librarian for Literary Studies and Digital Scholarship in the Humanities

Librarian for Literary Studies and Digital Scholarship in the Humanities
Description: Subject specialist supporting the research, teaching, and
learning programs of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in the
Department of English (http://english.fas.nyu.edu/page/home), and in the
Department of Comparative Literature (http://www.nyu.edu/fas/dept/complit)
in collaboration with other area studies librarians. The position reports
to the Head of the Humanities and Social Sciences Center in the
Collections and Research Services Division, NYU Libraries, with a
secondary reporting relationship to the Head of the Digital Studio.
Subject librarians serve as partners in the educational mission of NYU by
establishing collaborative relationships with faculty; building and
curating collections in relevant formats; providing and developing
innovative services in support of research, teaching, and learning; and
teaching research strategies in a variety of contexts. Specific
responsibilities relating to the digital scholarship area of this
position: assumes leadership and liaison roles in the scholarly
communication arena, engaging actively in local and national discussions
related to changing models for the dissemination of scholarship; promotes
Digital Studio core services to faculty, librarians, and relevant
institutions within and beyond NYU; works with humanities faculty and
graduate students in the development and implementation of research
projects involving digital technology; provides leadership in developing
and maintaining new services related to digital scholarship; collaborates
with subject specialists and other library staff on humanities projects;
does R&D of new software and tools, and fosters awareness of evolving
technologies and standards in digital humanities research.Qualifications:
ALA accredited MLS and subject Master's degree required for tenure.
Minimum three years of relevant library experience; ability to work
effectively with faculty, students, and staff in a team environment;
excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills; a high
degree of computer literacy, and a demonstrated interest in the
application of information technologies in the humanities are
required.Preferred: graduate course work in English and American
literature from an interdisciplinary perspective and emphasizing literary
history, theory, and criticism; an understanding of the issues confronting
libraries in the changing scholarly communications environment;
demonstrated ability to communicate effectively about information
technology issues; knowledge of metadata, xml, and information
architecture; project management experience.Salary/Benefits: Faculty
status and attractive benefits package, including five weeks annual
vacation. Salary is commensurate with experience and background.New York
