POSITION TITLE:  Instructional Designer

LOCATION:  Saint Martin's University (Lacey, Washington)

Saint Martin's University invites applications for a full-time
Instructional Designer who will work directly with faculty in the
integration of instructional technologies into traditional classrooms as
well as in the development of online courses and course materials. The
successful candidate will be conversant with current instructional and
multimedia technologies and with best practices related to their use in
teaching and learning. The Instructional Designer will also take a
leadership role in the development of a comprehensive technology
training program for faculty, staff, and students.  This position
reports to the O'Grady Library Director, but serves faculty throughout
the university.

Saint Martin's is a Catholic university in the Benedictine tradition.
The university offers twenty-one majors and graduate programs in
business, counseling, education, and engineering. Located just outside
Olympia, Washington, the small, but growing University shares a 280 acre
wooded campus with Saint Martin's Abbey. In addition to the residential
campus, the university provides courses online and through extension
programs at Fort Lewis, McChord Air Force Base, and several Washington
community colleges.



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaborates with faculty in the identification, development, promotion,
and assessment of teaching and learning strategies that effectively
integrate instructional technologies; through workshops and individual
consultations, trains and supports faculty who wish to take advantage of
instructional technologies in traditional face-to-face classes as well
as those who want to develop blended or fully online courses; provides
support and training to the library and other academic units in the
development of online instructional resources and services that support
teaching and learning; coordinates training and support for students in
the effective use of presentation, multimedia, or other technologies for
their academic projects; coordinates the development and implementation
of a comprehensive technology training program for faculty, staff, and
students, a program that includes clear goals for technological
proficiency, a plan for achieving these, and a process for assessing
whether the goals were reached; monitors and critically evaluates
emerging technologies and practices in the field, recommending new
instructional technologies and services that support the university's
mission; supervises the library's Technology Coordinator; collaborates
with faculty, ITS, and other stakeholders in the development of
university policies and procedures related to instructional technology
and online education; as a member of the library staff, assists in
planning and setting policies and procedures for the library;
participates in professional organizations and consortia and stays
abreast of research in the field.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technologies,
Library and Information Science, or a related field; successful
experience training and supporting faculty in the use of instructional
technologies; experience designing courses in WebCT, Blackboard, Moodle
or another course management system; demonstrated ability to initiate,
manage, and complete projects; demonstrated experience with web
development and multimedia production; ability to manage a complex
workload and set priorities based on established goals; ability to work
collaboratively and collegially with faculty and staff in units across
the University, including Integrated Technology Services, MIS, the Web
office, the Teaching Center, Continuing Education, and the Extension
programs.  The successful candidate must be supportive of a Catholic,
Benedictine philosophy of education.


COMPENSATION:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, starting $42,400.
