The City of Brentwood seeks team player and detail-oriented professional with management experience to join its team as the Reference Services Manager for the John P. Holt Brentwood Library.

 

The John P. Holt Brentwood Library provides access to over 165,000 books and other materials, including audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs and online resources. With the mission of being a vibrant and engaging community center for lifelong learning and the arts, the Library continues to be an eclectic resource available to the City of Brentwood community. Situated in a beautiful park setting and bordered by a walking trail and arboretum, the John P. Holt Brentwood Library is known as the crown jewel of the City of Brentwood.

 

As the Reference Services Manager you will be responsible for managing the Reference Services team and selecting, ordering, and maintaining adult and teen materials. You will help manage budgets for materials and programs and assist patrons as needed. This position collaborates with other Library staff to provide programs for patrons and promote use of the Library to community members.

Duties and Responsibilities

·         Directing, delegating, evaluating, and advising Reference Department staff/volunteers and serving as the person in charge of the library as necessary.

·         Managing all materials in the reference and teen collections in collaboration with other departments, as well as ILL and Firefly services, online materials, and LibGuides.

·         Developing and participating in long range planning for the Reference Department and library through various committees.

·         Encouraging and performing customer service with all patrons and public officials. 

·         Assisting patrons at the reference desk and with other services such as proctoring and programming.

·         Collaborating and participating in outreach services by promoting the use of the library to schools and community groups; teaching library instruction to groups visiting the Library.

·         Participating in professional development opportunities, including attending local and regional conferences and workshops, to stay current of technological changes in the library profession and to utilize all resources available to fulfill the library’s mission.

Minimum Training and Experience Required

Master's Degree in an ALA accredited Library Science program required with experience in a library as well as familiarity with technical services in a public library. Significant supervisory experience; demonstrated problem-solving ability with desktop computers; experience in managing a library software system; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
