Many thanks, Mr. Camponovo, for this helpful announcement.

To all Geographers and Sustainers, allow me to add my voice in encouraging everyone to take advantage of this year's special Geography Awareness Week activities.

All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the Nov. 16 Lunch/Learn with Margaret Pearce, which will also double as a Lillian Stimson Mentoring Event (if you don't know who Dr. Stimson was, see this page<https://geography.utk.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Who-was-Lillian-Stimson-diversity.pdf>).

We are quite lucky to have Dr. Pearce join us and I suspect her talks, especially her Distinguished Lecture, will resonate with many of us interested in the power, ethics, and artist-activism of mapping, specifically in the context of indigenous geographies.

Margaret Pearce is a Citizen Potawatomi tribal member and cartographer living on Penobscot homelands in Maine. She is dedicated to cartographic language as a way of writing about relationality, numbers, and Indigenous ways of being, and airing our assumptions about time, space, and each other. She holds a PhD in geography from Clark University and was a geography professor for 15 years (at Humboldt State University, Ohio University, and University of Kansas) before dedicating herself to cartography full-time as an independent artist. Her work has been supported by Yaddo, Art Omi, A Studio in the Woods, the Anderson Center, the School for Advanced Research, among others, and she is a 2023 Guggenheim fellow.

Thanks for your time and support,
Derek Alderman
