Information literacy is a critical element of teacher education programs of study. The Companion Document to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education: Instruction for Educators was approved in June 2023 by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Board of Directors and supports teaching faculty in schools, colleges, and departments of education by providing effective instructional approaches and actionable ways to collaborate with librarians.

The companion document helps education faculty and librarians to view their information literacy instructional opportunities through the lenses of digital literacy, social justice, and metacognition. It provides links to standards used in teacher education and connects the standards to the ACRL Framework to make information literacy practical and relevant to teacher education students as they work on course assignments, prepare for careers as teachers, and for work in the classroom.
