Dear Geographers and Sustainers:

Are you interested in learning how to use ChatGPT to enhance your learning?  If yes, welcome to join GEOG 425 (Human Dimension in GIScience) at 11:20 am – 12:35 pm on Tuesdays and Thursday this Fall semester.

GEOG 425 is a new course for people who are interested in GIS and GIScience.  This course will cover a range of topics such as “What are the roles of humans in choosing GIS representation/visualization of various features (e.g., roads, land cover) and places (e.g., downtown Knoxville)?”, “how do humans influence GIS analysis outcomes?”, “how do we represent humans in GIS?”, “what are implications of VGI and citizen science to GIS?”, “what are different ways of engaging communities in GIS?”, “what are key equity and social justice issues in GIS?”, “what are geo-privacy and geo-ethics challenges in GIS?”, etc.  ChatGPT and Google will be used as major tools in this course to learn and gain insights into the above topics.  Class discussions will not only focus on learning the above topics related to human dimension in GIScience but also cover learning of ChatGPT such as how to ask good questions to ChatGPT?, how to assess the quality of ChatGPT’s responses to your questions?, and what are potential pros (benefits) and cons (limitations) of using ChatGPT in your learning?

I look forward to working with you in this new and exciting course!  Please feel free to contact me at [log in to unmask] if you have questions.

All the best,
