Position Summary Information

Position Summary

The Library Associate provides daily coordination of work and workflow for the Felix G. Woodward Library Access Services unit.. Works cooperatively with other library units to coordinate library services and participates in Library cross-training initiatives to assist other units with meeting Library-wide priorities. Reporting to the Access Services Librarian, the Access Services Supervisor will collaboratively engage in long-range planning for the Access Services division, including exploring, piloting, and implementing services and technologies related to Access Services.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

·         Manages daily operations of Access Services Unit, including but not limited to the following basic functions: checking materials in and out, renewing borrowed materials, assisting with loans from other libraries, shelving and stack maintenance of materials, setting up course reserve materials in print and electronic formats, and responding to information requests received in various modalities. (50% of Time).

 

·         Provides training, direction, scheduling, and evaluation of unit support staff. Establishes, maintains, and revises procedures for departmental functions. Handles the most complex and sensitive problems involving circulation procedures, staff, and patrons. (25% of Time).

 

·         Performs general library duties; checks out and returns material; answers information requests; creates automated patron records; maintains and updates patron information database; generates management statistics (10% of Time).

 

·         Works regularly scheduled shifts at the information desk providing research and general information assistance. Also serves on Library and University committees. (5% of Time).

 

·         Prepares monthly/annual statistical reports, special studies, reports, and correspondence as needed. Performs other duties as assigned (10% of Time).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Ability to train, plan, schedule, and supervise the work of others

·         Ability to analyze problems and devise appropriate solutions

·         Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of practices, policies, and procedures

·         Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form

·         Knowledge of basic library procedures

·         Computer use skills, including ExLibris Alma and Primo VE, OCLC, Springshare products (LibInsights, LibAnswers, etc.), and other information resources

·         Skills and ability to interact with clientele of many educational levels and widely varying personality types

·         Skills in exercising discretion and judgment, including maintenance of confidentiality of patron privacy

·         Organizational skills

·         Ability to move full book carts and to lift materials up to 20 pounds

Physical Requirements

·         Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

·         Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.

·         Minimum of two years of work experience related to the above.

·         Experience in an academic library setting preferred.

·         Demonstrated knowledge using MS Office Suite or similar.

·         A background and credit check will be required of the successful applicant.
