The University of Mississippi Libraries is seeking a flexible, user-oriented Research & Instruction Librarian who is dedicated to providing instruction in information literacy and research to both face-to face and online classes while fostering a diverse and inclusive environment at an R1 research institution. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic and active team member of the UM Library’s First Year Instruction Initiative. Qualified librarians are invited to apply for the Research & Instruction Librarian and Assistant Professor position at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month faculty position reporting to the Head of Research & Instruction Services.

The successful candidate will: 

ˇ         Serve as a member of UM Library’s First Year Instruction Initiative and collaborate with internal and external units to support student success goals of both the library and the university. This is done by leading and assessing information literacy classes, workshops,  orientation activities, and first-year student instruction; 

ˇ         Serve as a liaison to the School of Education. Liaisons work with faculty and students to effectively use library resources and services to support their instruction, research, and collection needs; 

ˇ         Provide face-to-face and online research support to a diverse community of students and researchers on the Oxford campus and regional campuses; create digital learning objects related to the UM Library’s First Year Instruction Initiative and liaison areas as needed;    

ˇ         Contribute to librarianship, research, and service at a level appropriate for a tenure-track faculty member of the university.  

Required Qualifications: 

ˇ         Master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program by the date of hire 

ˇ         Familiarity with current and emerging trends in librarianship, specifically teaching and learning, information literacy, and collection resources designed to support assigned liaison areas  

ˇ         Demonstrated ability to engage with a diverse community  

ˇ         Committed to pursuing professional development, research, and service at a level appropriate for promotion and tenure at the university 

ˇ         Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  

Salary: $48,000/year and includes the university’s competitive benefits package
