Position: Electronic Resources Access Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Electronic Resources Access Coordinator focuses on establishing and maintaining access to electronic resources licensed by the University of Tennessee Libraries, including online journals, databases, streaming video, ebooks, and datasets. This position requires a thorough understanding of and experience in all aspects of activating, managing, problem reporting & resolving, and supporting ongoing access to electronic resources with current authentication and library system technologies, especially the library service platform, knowledge base, link resolver, proxy server, and article discovery service. This position serves as an expert in the areas of authentication, problem reporting, and problem resolution, and will serve as the coordinator for the Libraries' problem reporting & resolution service. The employee holding this position will also manage the work of part-time student employees.


This position will have responsibilities in the Resource Management unit within the Acquisitions and Continuing Resources Department. This department provides access to library collection materials that are critical to the teaching, learning and research missions of the university and its multiple sub components.

RESPONSIBILITIES

¡¤        Managing Electronic Resource Access and Problem Reporting & Resolution Services

o   Manages the online ticketing system used for the triage, problem reporting, and resolution of access to electronic resources for the UT Libraries (approximately 1700 tickets per year)

o   Creates best practices, documentation, and training for faculty and staff who provide problem reporting & resolution for electronic resources.

o   Communicates regularly about problem reporting & resolution strategies, new information, and issues affecting the delivery of problem reporting & resolution services

o   Works with Cataloging and Systems units to resolve complex issues related to access.

o   Serves as the Libraries¡¯ expert for the Alma knowledge bases (Community Zone and Central Discovery Index), often working closely with the other departments to enhance discoverability, manage discovery issues, and implement innovations.

o   Serves as the Libraries¡¯ electronic resources authentication expert, which includes managing authentication to electronic resources, understanding and responding to Single Sign On issues, working with vendors and campus IT on resolving issues, and participating in the larger library authentication community.

o   Serves as primary administrator of the Libraries' proxy server, EZProxy.

o   Maintains oversight of daily operations regarding electronic resource in ticketing, access, and discovery systems.

o   Manages and coordinates the availability of electronic resources in the Libraries¡¯ library service platform, Alma. This includes overseeing, creating, and implementing standards, best practices, and workflows for electronic resource access and discovery; coordinating and performing relevant electronic resource maintenance updates; and investigating new integrated library system tools to improve electronic resource management.

¡¤        Access & Discovery

o   Manages establishing and maintaining access to content throughout the lifecycle of electronic resources licensed by the Libraries.

o   Communicates with vendors to request, set-up, and run resource trials with vendors. Develops measures for evaluation and provides evaluative input on individuals making purchase decisions.

o   Communicates with vendors to set-up, investigate, or resolve complex issues with electronic resource activation, authentication, or discovery.

o   Collaborates across departments for efficient and effective discovery and access of electronic resources, and works with subject specialists to ensure discoverability of electronic resources from point of acquisition through the life cycle of the resource.

¡¤        Leadership & Professional Development

o   Manages three part-time student employees which includes the hiring, training, retention of student workers; oversight of daily operations related to student workers; project management of regular tasks and special projects.

o   Provides training to groups and individuals throughout the Libraries for troubleshooting electronic resource access issues.

o   Participates in professional development, library committees, departmental and library-wide meetings, and planning activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required

¡¤        Bachelor¡¯s degree

¡¤        1-year experience managing electronic resources in libraries

¡¤        Experience working with vendors, publishers, and acquisition methods.

¡¤        Knowledge of the best practices for managing the records that track electronic purchases, subscriptions, and licenses.

¡¤        Demonstrated ability managing e©\resources within a library service platform, knowledge base, link resolver, proxy server, and article discovery service.

¡¤        Demonstrated ability to resolve e-resource access issues.

¡¤        Ability to handle confidential information.

¡¤        Ability to review complex documents.

¡¤        Ability to gather information from a variety of sources and present information clearly and concisely.

¡¤        Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

¡¤        Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

¡¤        Knowledge of basic cataloging principles for electronic resources.

Preferred

¡¤        Master¡¯s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Library Science or Information Science degree

¡¤        Experience managing electronic resources in an academic library.

¡¤        Experience managing library projects.

¡¤        Supervisory experience or experience providing work direction.

¡¤        Demonstrated record designing projects and completing them in a timely manner.

¡¤        Demonstrated experience using the Alma library service platform and Primo discovery layer.

¡¤        Skilled in providing work direction and training to others.
