We are seeking two student researchers to partner with local non-profits Keep Knoxville Beautiful and Three3 in conducting field surveys of litter throughout Knoxville and Knox County. These surveys will involve using Esri ArcGIS tools to capture data about the amount and type of litter in designated areas throughout the county in order to support mapping and analysis efforts aimed at conducting more targeted litter prevention and clean-up campaigns. Students with GIS knowledge will also have the opportunity to collaborate on the analytic efforts with Three3, a research organization dedicated to fostering equitable and sustainable futures, and we also particularly welcome students who have studied the environmental impacts of litter.
