To celebrate homecoming, on Thursday 10/20 and Friday 10/21, the Baker Center along with the Center for Global Engagement, Global Studies Program, Political Science Department, Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration, and the Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture will be hosting distinguished alumni for classroom visits, meetings with student groups, and a panel discussion for Friday at 12:30, “Vols making an impact in global development.” Lindsay McClain (’09), Amber Sheets (‘07 ’10), and Dr. Maria Hinson Tobin (’13) have each pursued career paths working for international nongovernmental organizations in the areas of global economic development, post-conflict peace-building, and health.



Oct 20: Lunch with Global Development Alumni | 11:30am-1:00pm

Join us for lunch to indulge your interests in global affairs. Network with other students, faculty, and staff across campus that are connected to international issues: the Center for Global Engagement, the Global Studies Program, the Political Science Department, the Center for Career Development & Academic Exploration, and the Smith Center for International Sustainable Agriculture.

Oct 20: NGOs in Global Politics Conversation/Simulation | 2:00-4pm

Play a game while learning about global politics. Participants will work on teams competing in a game that simulates the competitive ecosystem in which NGOs try to gain the public’s attention to solve some of the world’s most important problems.

Do you want to help solve the world's most challenging problems like food insecurity, access to clean water, and establishing peace after conflict? You can learn how to build a meaningful career working for a global nonprofit from some Volunteers who came before you.
