Hi Anna,

Thank you for thinking of us! We recently finalized our name change to “Department of Geography and Sustainability” since we house the Sustainability degree program as well, so this definitely is of interest to us.

Faculty and students, please see the opportunity below.

Best,
Hannah

Hi Tom and Hannah,

We interacted last spring about the GCUA ambassadorship opportunity. I want to touch base with you about the Committee on the Campus Environment (CCE) at UT. We work together with UT administration to increase sustainability at UT. We were brainstorming about bringing in more advocates at our last meeting and I thought of you.

A little bit about us, we're involved in tons of sustainability initiatives across campus and have ties to local community efforts (a City of Knoxville representative attends each meeting). Some examples are the 2061 carbon neutrality master plan, the Green Fee fund, converting UT's fleet to electric, adding renewable energy installations to campus, the reusable Mug project, the switch to LED lighting, refillable water bottle stations, the Tiny Trash program, switching dining options to paper straws and compostable containers, Zero Waste Game Day, and many more (https://cce.utk.edu/).

In addition, we're involved in creating learning and hands-on opportunities for students (undergrad and grad) interested in getting sustainability experience. We're always looking for ways to increase our effectiveness and welcome any faculty, staff, or students who want to pitch in.

If you're interested in learning more or joining, we meet the first Tuesday of each month at 1:30pm; our next meeting will be September 6. Please feel free to contact me or our chairs (https://cce.utk.edu/membership/) with any questions or for the meeting Zoom link. And please do spread the word if you know any other sustainable-minded folks who might like to pitch in!

Best,
Anna
