Join us for NASA Earth Science Applications Week 2022

Tuesday, Aug. 9 thru Thursday, Aug. 11 from 1-4p.m. EDT

Earth Science Applications Week is almost here! Organized by the NASA Earth Applied Sciences Program, the virtual event highlights experts and end-users from within and outside NASA, speaking about everything from space-borne to boots-on-the-ground solutions to our planet's most pressing concerns.

Join NASA’s Earth Applied Sciences Disasters program area as our scientists and researchers highlight Disasters Applications in a special hour-long session at 2 p.m. EDT, Thursday, Aug. 11.

Scheduled NASA Disasters program area presentations include:

·     Introduction to the Disasters Program - Shanna McClain, Ph.D., (NASA Disasters Program Manager)

·     Landslides: Susceptibility & Exposure - Dr. Robert Emberson, (NASA Disasters Associate Program Manager)

·     Project Highlight: Visualizing Multi-Hazard Risk in Central America - Shayna Solis (CEO Navteca) and Ricardo Quiroga (NASA Disasters Program Center Coordinator, Langley Research Center)

·     Active Fires: Fire Directionality & Impact - Kyle Hilburn (Colorado State University)

·     Earthquakes: Exposure & Vulnerability - Charles Huyck (ImageCAT) and Diana Chao (Kinetic Analysis Corporation)

·     Tornadoes: Damage & Impact - Eric Fielding, Ph.D. (NASA Disasters Center Coordinator, Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

Conflict, war, and forced displacement affect millions of people each year and have immediate and long-term consequences for human health and development. Analysis with NASA satellite imagery can help target humanitarian response and relief by offering a timely understanding of region-specific environmental conditions and change, and through capturing contextual information over broad geographic regions and time spans.

NASA’s Applied Remote Sensing Training Program (ARSET) now offers a 4-part series on using NASA data products for monitoring human settlements and landscapes during armed conflict and forced displacement.

Earth Science Applications Guidebook Available

As we approach Earth Science Applications Week, remember to download NASA Applied Sciences first-ever Earth Science Applications Guidebook. With interactive and multimedia content, it synthesizes best practices and useful guidance in working with user communities and developing applications to inform decision-making.
