The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK), a Research 1 institution and the flagship institution for the state, is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the collaborative and innovative Teaching and Learning Programs team at the University Libraries. The city of Knoxville is a hidden gem with a beautiful and walkable downtown, varied nightlife, active neighborhoods, and eclectic shopping and restaurants. UT is located within easy driving distance to Asheville, Nashville, Atlanta, and the Great Smoky Mountains.


The Student Success Librarian for Information Literacy will design, deliver, and assess user-centered instruction for early-career undergraduates, in support of UT’s Vol Core general education curriculum. The librarian will teach research and information literacy skills in in-person, online, and hybrid modalities, with a particular focus on creating sustainable, scalable, and inclusive instructional experiences. Through thoughtful and proactive dialogue with Libraries’ colleagues and course instructors, the Student Success Librarian will develop, communicate, and assess student learning outcomes related to finding, evaluating, and disseminating information. As liaison to First-Year Composition, the Student Success Librarian will engage students across multiple modes of composition and expression in a supportive environment that encourages creativity and lifelong learning. In collaboration with departmental and Libraries’ colleagues, the Student Success Librarian will provide vision in building and enhancing instructional experiences and resources that facilitate the incorporation of information literacy across the curriculum. 


As a member of the Teaching and Learning Programs Department, the librarian will work in both self-directed and collaborative ways to develop and contribute to instructional resources, such as research guides and tutorials; participate in engagement and orientation initiatives; and provide research assistance and consultation. The Student Success Librarian for Information Literacy will work to meet students, faculty, and staff where they are, with a focus on contributing to a holistic and inclusive vision of student success. The successful candidate will be an active and reflective participant in departmental and cross-departmental conversations and initiatives to enhance an infrastructure of support for colleagues and peers engaged in teaching and learning. 



Specific Duties:


  • Design and deliver instructional experiences for early-career undergraduates in in-person, online, and hybrid modalities

  • Develop, assess, and communicate learning outcomes related to information literacy and research skills 

  • Create regular reports with statistics, assessment outcomes, and observations on information literacy instruction

  • Serve as liaison to First-Year Composition (FYC) program, including teaching instruction sessions, creating instructional resources; communicating Libraries’ offerings through proactive outreach; and providing consultation and support to students and instructors 

  • Collaborate with Libraries’ colleagues to enhance a sustainable and scalable infrastructure of support for information literacy instruction across the curriculum  

  • Engages with campus partners to contribute to and advance student success

  • Contribute to a team-based approach to develop instructional materials, share best practices and pedagogical resources, and conduct assessment of instructional initiatives

  • Participate in liaison responsibilities to include: teaching research and information literacy classes; participating in engagement activities; and providing research assistance and consultation

  • Engage in research/scholarship/creative activity through publication, presentation, and related outlets

  • Serve the library profession through involvement in professional organizations and through cooperative efforts with other information professionals



Qualifications:

The successful candidate must exhibit the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals and demonstrate enthusiasm to meet dynamically changing needs within a culture of continuous learning.


Required


  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science or related discipline by time of appointment

  • Strong commitment to public service

  • Evidence of commitment to diversity and inclusion in a higher education environment 

  • Evidence of ability to work effectively in both self-directed and collaborative ways to plan, implement, and coordinate projects and initiatives 

  • Demonstrated success in planning, implementing, and leading innovative instruction or student engagement programs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional assessment techniques and considerations

  • Demonstrated interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build relationships across professional and disciplinary areas

  • Evidence of ability to engage in research, publication, and service consonant with the University’s and Libraries’ guidelines for faculty promotion and tenure


Preferred


  • Experience teaching information literacy sessions or developing instructional materials

  • Familiarity with instructional technology, such as LibGuides or learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.) 

  • Experience in conducting assessment or evaluation of a program or initiative

BENEFITS

Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with a salary of $53,500.  Faculty rank and status; twelve-month, tenure-track appointment.  Library faculty must meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.
