Subject: Fw: Link To USA Jobs - Biologist, Ecologist Position

All:
Note below a job announcement for a data manager position here in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is primarily working with the tabular side of data, but some knowledge of GIS is a plus. This is a temporary position and it is a position without much field work involved, though it is often considered a good idea to get the data manager out in the field with some of the projects to better understand the data needs. Please circulate this to anyone you think who might be interested and qualified. As some of you may be the only person at your institution or department whom I've contacted, feel free to send to your colleagues and their students.
Thank you.
Paul

Part of the position description:
This position is locally referred to as an Assistant Data Manager, the official title is either Biologist for the GS 0401 Series or Ecologist for the GS 0408 Series.

Assists in the design, development, and management of a database systems for the long-term maintenance, analysis and dissemination of natural resource-related data sets produced by past and forthcoming inventory and monitoring efforts.

Synthesizes a wide range of data types including biological, physical, and bibliographical in both tabular and spatial formats. Assures that metadata for these data sets is complete, current, and in compliance with FGDC standards.

Integrates a variety of GIS and database management software, and when necessary, modifies or adapts standard software to meet program needs.
