This is primarily working with the tabular side of data, but some knowledge of GIS is a plus. This is a temporary position and it is a position without much field work involved, though it is often considered a good idea to get the data manager out in the field with some of the projects to better understand the data needs. Paul Part of the position description: This position is locally referred to as an Assistant Data Manager, the official title is either Biologist for the GS 0401 Series or Ecologist for the GS 0408 Series. Assists in the design, development, and management of a database systems for the long-term maintenance, analysis and dissemination of natural resource-related data sets produced by past and forthcoming inventory and monitoring efforts. Works closely with park resource managers, scientists, GIS specialists, and cooperating personnel to evaluate legacy data, assure that relevant and useful data are acquired and integrated into the I&M program's databases, and that such data complement existing park data systems. Synthesizes a wide range of data types including biological, physical, and bibliographical in both tabular and spatial formats. Assures that metadata for these data sets is complete, current, and in compliance with FGDC standards. Integrates a variety of GIS and database management software, and when necessary, modifies or adapts standard software to meet program needs.
