Job Summary/Basic Function

Reporting to the Discovery Services Librarian, design, develop, test, and implement software applications and systems, administer relational databases, maintain strict security and integrity of data; integrate third party APIs, search engine optimization, multimedia, and development tools; collaborate with Library departments and personnel in regards to output, UI and various software and procedures. Create and manage library web pages within various content management systems and integrate library resources into these systems. Perform related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Required Education

A bachelor's degree is required preferably in computer science, information systems or related field.

Required Related Experience

Two (2) years successful employment in programming, UI development, and/or database support. Working knowledge of and demonstrated abilities in use of development tools including HTML, XML, ASP, PHP, CSS, Blogs and Wikis, JavaScript, multimedia creation and editing software (an online portfolio must be provided by the applicant). Working knowledge of server operating systems and UI security.

A Master's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and One (1) year experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor's degree and two years experience.

Desirable Related Experience

- Four years of progressively responsible full-time experience as programmer, developer or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience with programming for social media and mobile environments preferred.
- Experience working in an academic environment is preferred.
- Experience working with the Springshare LibApps platform preferred.
- Prior experience with an enterprise content management system, server-side scripting (.Net, PHP, etc.), structured data (XML, JSON, etc.), and project management experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in library web or application work preferred.
- Experience with user-centered design and processes, such as heuristic evaluations, wireframing, information architecture, usability best practices, accessibility concerns, etc. preferred.

Desirable License/Registration/Certification

CIW Web Development Professional, Microsoft MCSD, or equivalent preferred
