Library Technician I, Part Time (20 hrs/week) (PART TIME, NON-EXEMPT) The City of Spring Hill is seeking to fill the position of Library Technician. The employee in this position will assist in circulation and clerical procedures. He or she will assist the public with catalogs, databases and indexes. Duties also include answering basic reference questions, collecting and recording fines, and assisting with library programming. The employee also will empty the book drop and properly shelve materials. Qualifications HS Diploma/GED 1 yr. library or clerical experience required. 3+ yrs customer service experience required. 1 yr public library experience and/or 2 yrs college strongly preferred. Special Requirements The employee must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time daily; mobility and strength to bend, stoop, lift and carry books for a short distance; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; and good memory and recall. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Work is performed indoors in a comfortable, climate controlled office environment. Moderate noise level. Must have basic computer skills. Must be available 20 hours per week, with 1 evening shift until 7:45 pm each week. Must be available alternating Saturdays between 8:30am-5pm. Miscellaneous Information REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledge of the methods of classifying, cataloging, and shelf-listing books. Knowledge of library methods, materials, and organization. Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification systems. Knowledge of research methods used in locating materials. Knowledge of reference material used in the library. Identifying and utilizing library resources, including performing detailed and technical library support work Ability to maintain a current knowledge of books and authors. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in both verbal and written forms with diverse populations.
