To: <[log in to unmask]>

Editors Kaurri C. Williams-Cockfield and Bharat Mehra invite you to submit a 500-word abstract proposing a chapter for an edited volume by February 28, 2022. The publication language is English.

Williams-Cockfield, K. & Mehra, B. (Eds.). (2023 forthcoming). How Public Libraries Build Sustainable Communities in the 21st Century (Advances in Librarianship, Vol. 53) Bingley, United Kingdom: Emerald Publishing Limited.

This edited collection will include public library case studies (4000 words excluding references) and reflective narratives (2000 words excluding references) with concrete examples and strategies of the ways that public libraries use social capital to build communities and affect social change (Wojciechowska, 2021). The chapters will be organized around a condensed categorization of the United Nations' (UN) seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (United Nations, 2015) focused in the following four sections:

Public Libraries Advocating for Social Justice
Public Libraries Mobilizing Climate Change
Public Libraries Promoting Economic Development
Public Libraries Nurturing Positive Peace

In an effort to encompass diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility in the broadest sense, the work will include international perspectives that discuss the ways public libraries are transforming communities in the 21st century.

Topics include case studies and reflective narratives on the topics referenced below [but not limited to]:
Public Libraries AND Collective Impact (Kania & Kramer, 2011) including: Social Justice Initiatives, Social Capital, Library-Community Partnerships, Community Sustainability, Inequality, Issues and Barriers in Supporting Social Change, Climate Change, Local Economy/Economic Development, Adaptive Problems, Library Programs to Underserved Populations, and Promoting Positive Peace.
