We are delighted to announce this summer school, to be held at ICTP, Trieste (Italy), August 1-5, 2022. It will feature mini-courses by Joshua Greene, Jen Hom, Francesco Lin, John Pardon (to be confirmed) and Thomas Walpuski, covering topics in low-dimensional topology, Floer homology, and gauge theory. The summer school will be followed by a research conference the week after. This message is a reminder that applications are open now and that the deadline is FEBRUARY 28, 2022. The application page is linked to from the main event web page, http://indico.ictp.it/event/9705/ Applicants are expected to provide a recommendation letter from their PhD advisor. Practical information (some of which is still preliminary at this point): WHO CAN APPLY? PhD students with an interest in the topics covered by the summer school. During the application process, applicants will be able to state whether they are potentially interested in staying on for the conference the week after. HOW ABOUT COVID AND REMOTE PARTICIPATION? We encourage in-person attendance. However, in view of current uncertainties, the summer school is designed as hybrid, and allows remote participation if necessary. Note that remote participants have to go through the same application process as in-person ones. WHERE WILL PARTICIPANTS STAY? ICTP has on-campus housing that participants can book at a reasonable price. HOW ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR HOUSING AND TRAVEL? Our aim is to cover housing expenses for most or all participants during the summer school. Additionally, some summer school participants may receive support for housing during the conference (the week after the summer school), and/or a contribution towards travel expenses. One of our funding sources is ICTP, which offers partial support for participants from developing countries (this is part of ICTP's mission of encouraging the worldwide development of mathematics and physics). The Clay Foundation has awarded us a small amount of funding, for travel expenses of selected participants. Finally, we have a pending application for funding from the National Science Foundation, which if approved would provide additional resources for a number of US-based graduate students. To announce a geometry or closely related conference, send the announcement (including a conference web site if possible) to [log in to unmask] The moderator cannot edit your message; list members will receive the announcement as an e-mail from you EXACTLY as you submitted it. For example, if your submission starts with "Please post this on the geometry list" then your conference announcement will also begin with that statement. In order to keep down the volume of e-mail, only TWO announcements per conference will be approved by the moderator. The "subject" of your message should include the name of the conference and the number (first or second) of the announcement, e.g. Gauss Memorial Lectures in Geometry: Second Announcement. You are strongly encouraged to provide essential information such as dates and location near the top of the body of your message, and not require someone to visit your conference link to find it. Please check that your announcement (especially the website) is correct. Corrections will be approved only in the most critical situations, e.g. if corrected information is not available on the website. After submitting an announcement you may receive a message asking you to confirm your submission. This feature is designed to thwart the hundreds of machine-generated spam that are sent to the list and would otherwise have to be manually blocked by the moderator. If you do not see your announcement within 48 hours, please check the archives to see whether it was actually posted (i.e. you somehow missed seeing the post or are not subscribed with your current email address). If the announcement is not in the archive, search for a confirmation message that you may have missed (from listserv.utk.edu).
