Dear Geographers and Sustainers,

WILEY, the company that makes a lot of money off textbooks including in your classes, is giving $500 VISA gift cards to students experiencing financial hardship.

Winners will be selected randomly from students who qualify as needing funds.

If you want to be nominated, and are willing to provide information on your needs, let me or another professor know, and we can nominate you. Possibly each faculty member willing to nominate a student can only nominate one.

Note that being nominated and needy is not all you need to get the $500; you have to also get lucky. The number of applicants could be so large as to make your chances low.

But, apparently 200 students will get lucky.

Subject: Nominate a student for a Stay the Course Grant

Hi Professor Horn,

Students have always had periods of financial uncertainty. As an instructor, you witness these challenges every day. In the spirit of Wiley's mission of unlocking human potential, we are proud to provide help for your students through Stay the Course Grants.

In its second year, the Wiley Stay the Course Grant program provides a total of $100,000 to students experiencing financial hardship. You can nominate a student in need of a $500 Visa gift card before the deadline of March 31, 2022.

Nominate your student

Of the qualifying nominees, 200 will be randomly selected and the student and their nominating instructor will be informed by email. Students must be willing to share their contact information with us, as well as provide a description of the nature of their need. Grants will be awarded before the end of April.

Thank you for being there for your students. We promise to continue to be there for you.
