UT to Host NSF Chief of Research Security Strategy and Policy

In recent years, the US government has expressed bipartisan concerns about the comprehensive efforts of the Chinese government to illicitly and unethically acquire knowledge, intellectual property, and talent created in US academic institutions, in many cases with US government funding. These concerns have shone a spotlight on China’s foreign talent programs.  Subsequent actions by the US government have impacted faculty in academic institutions across the country, including at UT Knoxville, particularly those who have long-standing collaborations with Chinese universities and their faculty.

Rebecca Keiser, chief of research security strategy and policy at the National Science Foundation (NSF), will visit UT Knoxville on January 28. She will give an open presentation while she is on campus in Room 169 of the Student Union from 9:30–10:30 a.m.

Keiser will discuss the US government’s coordinated efforts to ensure the security of federally funded research while simultaneously promoting international collaboration to advance fundamental scientific knowledge for the benefit of the global community.

Date: January 28, 2021

Time: 9:30–10:30 a.m.

Location: Student Union, Room 169
