Somerville-Fayette County Public Library is seeking a Library Director to oversee daily operations for a Level 4 library with a service population of 41,620 and a staff of four.

SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION:

The Library Director will receive supervision from the Library Board of Trustees, follow and abide by County governance and general guidance from the Regional Library Director. The Director shall comply with policies and procedures established by the Library Board.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a full-time salaried position. The Library Director will accomplish the following:

• Serve as the Library’s executive officer and manage daily operations
• Hire and manage staff and volunteers; handle terminations if necessary
• Prepare the annual budget draft, oversee payroll, receive and expend funds, and maintain accurate financial records; deliver invoices to County Budget Office
• Prepare Board meeting agendas and necessary reports; attend Board meetings
• Assist the Board with long-range planning and policy development
• Select materials for all media and all age groups
• Attend and present at County Commissioners’ meetings when needed
• Participate in regional library continuing education events and webinars for required CE credits

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• EDUCATION – A master’s degree in Library Science is preferred. A bachelor’s degree and significant public library experience will be considered.

• EXPERIENCE – At least five years of library experience is preferred. Previous supervisory experience is also preferred.

SALARY RANGE:
The starting salary for this position is $35,000 to $38,500, depending on experience. The benefit package includes health/dental insurance and participation in the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System.
