Job Summary

The Clayton State University, a member of the University System of Georgia, seeks a Department Head of Access, Research, and Instructional Services (ARIS) for the Clayton State University Library to lead and coordinate all areas of public services including research and reference, instruction, and access services. While ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely information, the ARIS team led by the Department Head will provide quality customer service to the Clayton State University community.

This is a non-tenure track library faculty position with rank eligibility. The successful candidate will be eligible for Librarian II rank based upon professional experience. The proposed work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, 9AM to 6PM but is flexible based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities
·         Supervises and mentors department members including the hiring, training, and managing of human resources’ related duties (e.g., time approval).
·         Coordinates scheduling of service points including the reference-information desk, circulation desk, virtual chat service, and other current or future services.
·         Coordinates and schedules library instructional services and resources.
·         Coordinates and develops library liaison program.
·         Serves as subject area or department liaison, and develops related activities as needed for those specific areas and departments.
·         Maintains online subject guides and other information resources (e.g., videos).
·         Identifies, evaluates, and recommends printed and online resources, and reviews the reference collection for additions and/or withdrawals.
·         Promotes library services, resources, and collections.
·         Assists marketing and assessment librarian with library promotional activities and the collection of statistics for all service areas within ARIS.
·         Participates in student learning assessment.
·         Participates in planning, management, and decision-making as a member of the Library Leadership Team.
·         Interacts effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
·         Serves on library, campus, community, and professional committees as assigned.
·         Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
·         Master of Library Science (MLS, MIS, or MLIS) or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited university or international equivalent.
·         A minimum of five years post-MLS, MIS, or MLIS experience of which at least three must be in a supervisory public services position at an academic library.
·         Demonstrated leadership and skills in project management and problem solving.
·         Able to work both collaboratively and independently on multiple projects.
·         Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
·         Experience conducting library presentations or teaching, preferably in an academic environment.
·         Experience providing reference service, preferably in an academic library setting with demonstrated knowledge of current issues and trends in the library profession.
·         Experience in collection development or collection management activities.
·         Knowledge of ACRL Information Literacy Framework.
·         Knowledge of information literacy assessment methods and tools.
·         Knowledge of Access Services (e.g., circulation and resource sharing) best practices.
·         Knowledge of electronic resources (e.g., databases and E-books).
·         Knowledge of copyright law and fair usage best practices.
·         Familiarity with current trends in instructional technology.
·         Familiarity with emergence of institutional repositories, including issues, policies, service models, and strategies securing appropriate content.
·         Outreach experience and knowledge of marketing techniques.
·         Capability and commitment to engage in teaching/job effectiveness, research, service, and continued professional development for promotion as a faculty member.
·         Must be self-directed, well organized, and able to multi-task and meet multiple demands.
·         Ability to work in a constantly changing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
·         Ability and commitment to work in a culturally and ethnically diverse campus community.
·         Experience working collaboratively with faculty and as a subject liaison in English and the Social Sciences.
·         Experience with Springshare products (e.g., LibGuides, LibChat, LibCal, LibWizard).
·         Experience with ALMA and PRIMO.
·         Experience with Circulation and resource sharing best practices, and assessment methods.
·         Experience with Camtasia, Nero, Canva, and other instructional tutorial tools.
·         Experience with the creation of online tutorials for online classes.
·         Experience with personnel budgeting.
·         Experience with scheduling and resolving challenges related to desk and virtual coverage.
·         Ability to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
