Dear Geography and Sustainability folks,

Just a quick note to let you that Rev. Reneé Kesler will be giving a guest lecture at UTK on Black Histories (and Geographies) of Knoxville along with the ongoing activities of the Beck Cultural Exchange Center<https://www.beckcenter.net/>, where she serves as Executive Director.

See link below for more details. The talk is on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00pm to 8:00pm in Student Union, Room 272 B/C.

Renee is a good friend of our program, having served as a community partner for students in our GIS and Community class (directed by Liem Tran that semester). Our unit has held workshops at the Beck, including GFDA early faculty career training a few years ago and more recently seminars with area tourism leaders (led by adjunct Geography faculty member Stef Benjamin). Presently, Michael Camponovo and I serve on the Beck Cultural Corridor Task Force, set up to assist with mapping, preserving, and promoting the histories of those portions of Knoxville's Black neighborhoods and business districts razed in the name of urban "renewal" and highway expansion/development.

Please do what you can to come to support Rev. Kesler and learn from one of our area's great advocates.
