The Acquisitions Assistant performs highly detailed activities related to acquiring and making available to users the library resources necessary to support teaching, learning, and research at Vanderbilt. This requires specialized knowledge of record and order maintenance, vendor systems and provider platforms, vendor relations, and software related to this work, as well as the ability to assess workflows, document procedures, and train others in these tasks.

The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University is comprised of nine libraries, as well as service departments in collections services, scholarly communications, IT infrastructure, and digital scholarship. We seek to create a welcoming environment and serve as a partner in research and scholarship. The libraries are dynamic places for faculty, staff, students, and alumni to reflect and discover. We also strive to be a workplace in which staff at every level continuously grow in knowledge and skills, staying abreast of advances and trends in librarianship to power relevant, vibrant research libraries.
The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are fundamental to the university's goal of advancing scholarship and learning. We collect, preserve and make accessible a wide variety of resources, we partner with faculty and students to shape research, and we encourage the development of informed scholars and engaged citizens. Within Collections Services, the Acquisitions and E-Resources unit is responsible for purchasing, licensing, processing, and providing access to library materials in all formats.
Duties and Responsibilities

  *   Take lead role in managing departmental web presence to ensure that all procedures are documented and assist in identifying areas where additional training or documentation is needed. Assist in developing and conducting said training.
  *   Preorder review and record selection or creation, and import to library online catalog following departmental timelines.
  *   Creation of purchase orders in the library or vendor system following a variety of workflows that vary based on vendor, funding, and material type paying close attention to details. This may include vendor selection and communicating order details to the vendor in an accurate and professional manner.
  *   Process and pay for new materials upon receipt or when access becomes available so that users can access via the online catalog, following all departmental and University guidelines.
  *   Assist in day-to-day projects or troubleshooting of acquisitions and eresource related issues.
  *   Participate fully and positively in library and team-wide initiatives by assisting in the development and achievement of established goals.
Qualifications

  *   Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
  *   At least one year of relevant experience in a related field, preferably in an academic library setting is necessary.
  *   Demonstrated proficiency with office productivity software and common communication tools, as well as the proven ability to work with, adapt to, and train others on new technologies as they evolve is necessary.
  *   Clear evidence of having worked successfully in an environment requiring strong attention to detail is necessary.
  *   Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a highly collaborative setting; ability to solve problems in a timely manner and prioritize appropriately is necessary.
  *   Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills is necessary.
  *   Functional familiarity with language other than English is preferred.
