The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a Director of Advancement for the University Libraries. The Director of Advancement, reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor, will work with and solicit major gift donors to the University Libraries. This position will have oversight of the libraries’ annual fund goals and will be in charge of the Library Society Board as well as lead the donor recognition and stewardship efforts for the libraries which will include special events and mailings. This position will partner with all UTK development directors and annual giving officers to ensure a collaborative, strategy-driven approach to funding for the libraries, while helping increase annual giving and major donor support as a whole for the libraries and UTK.

Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree is required in addition to a minimum of five or more years of experience in a position related to development such as sales, marketing, communications, volunteer management, nonprofit fundraising, alumni affairs and/or event planning. Two plus years of supervisory experience is preferred. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience in a higher education institution and event planning are also preferred.

Skills: Strong written and oral communications, organizational skills, and relationship building skills are required. This position will require the ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities with time sensitive deadlines. This position will also require demonstrated accuracy and analytical skills.  Must be able and willing to travel overnight as needed. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances.  In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.
