JASON REYNOLDS, NATIONAL AMBASSADOR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE'S LITERATURE,  TO (VIRTUALLY) VISIT SCHOOLS IN TENNESSEE!
FREE BOOKS, FREE VISIT!

In partnership with the Library of Congress, the Tennessee Center for the Book at Humanities Tennessee is thrilled to welcome (virtually) Jason Reynolds to Tennessee on October 22nd at 9:30 AM CENTRAL TIME for a 2021 online Student Reader Day event.

Would your school like to be a part of this literary day!? If you currently work at a rural school with 5-8 graders read on ...

BEFORE THE VISIT!

  • Humanities Tennessee will send all participating students a (free) copy of Look Both Ways.
  • Students read the book!
  • Students respond to a Look Both Ways prompt [write a poem, create a Minecraft world, a diorama, a mural, a short story, a play etc etc etc]

DURING THE VISIT!

  • Tune in! The event will be streamed over youtube, vimeo or the like. More details will come through closer to the date; at minimum, your school will need internet and a monitor/screen/projector.
  • Jason will chat with a student representative (who can ask questions gathered from classmates). More info about student reps forthcoming but please note that not every participating school will have its own student representative/ambassador

AFTER THE VISIT!

  • Educator fills out a survey!
  • Students revel in the memory of the Student Reader Day experience!

OH AND MINECRAFT! WAIT! WHAT? MINECRAFT?!

  • We're hoping that we can host this event inside a few MINECRAFT worlds created by students (and inspired by the book). So, yes, Jason Reynolds' avatar (voiced by Jason!) would be (live!) walking around worlds created by students while chatting with the students about the book and life. If your school has a Minecraft program please let us know! [And for an attempt at clarity here: no Minecraft at your school, no problem; your school does not have to have Minecraft in order to be a part of the overall event!]

ALL GOOD! NOW WHAT?

Please fill out this form:

Please note: by filling out this form, it does not guarantee participation in the event.

THANK YOU!
