Subject: RE: Agent requirements

I don't think we have an overarching policy that gets that specific - we just put the degree field requirements in the specific job posting (and even then have 'or a related field' for flexibility).

These are our only formal guidelines as far as I know (from https://extadmin.ifas.ufl.edu/media/extadminifasufledu/agentx2fspecialist/docs/Academic-Ranks.pdf )

In accordance with University of Florida rules (6C1-6.009 and 6C1-7.025 and 6C1-7.003 and
(5c)1.2.3.4), the Florida Cooperative Extension Service provides a system of academic rank to
identify the level of professional development in a county faculty member's career. The ranks,
Agent I, Agent II, Agent III, and Agent IV, are equivalent to the traditional university academic
ranks of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, and professor.

The rank associated with a particular position is advertised in the position announcement. In
positions open to several ranks (e.g. Extension Agent I, II, or III), the rank is determined at the
time the position is offered based on the individual's education and professional experience.

Extension Agent I
To be employed as an Extension Agent I, an individual must hold at least a Bachelor's degree
and possess all necessary qualifications for the Extension position.

Extension Agent II
To enter Florida CES at the rank of Extension Agent II, usually an individual must have a
Master's degree and at least 5 years of professional experience in Extension. Consideration may
be given to individuals without a Master's, but they must produce verification that they have
completed at least one-half of the degree requirements and are currently enrolled in a graduate
program for completion of the degree.

For a county Extension faculty member to be promoted to the rank of Extension Agent II, the
individual must provide verification that he or she is currently enrolled in a graduate program
and has completed at least one-half of a Master's.

Extension Agent III
To enter Florida CES as a Extension Agent III, an individual must have a Master's degree, at
least 10 years of professional experience in Extension, and a reputation as a leader in his/her
field.

For county Extension faculty to be promoted to Extension Agent III, an individual must have a
Master's degree and a reputation as a leader in his/her field.

Extension Agent IV
To achieve the rank of Extension Agent IV, an individual must have demonstrated the highest
quality of programming and professional development and be recognized statewide for high quality
performance. Candidates for Agent IV must have consistently received above-average
performance evaluations.

Hello Everyone,

We are having discussions on requirements in the degree area for Agents.

Can you tell us what your state requires? for example:

AG agent requires an Ag degree in one of our AG departments
FCS agent requires an FCS degree or a specific number of course work in FCS
4-H agent requires degree in related field to teaching

Please help us out.

Thank you so much and I really miss seeing everyone.
