Topic: Using Freight Mobility Tools to Measure Truck Flow Efficiency

Registration: https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/fpd/talking_freight/index.htm

Description and Presentations: Freight transportation volumes continue to increase as the U.S. population grows and people’s demand for products increases.  However, transportation system capacity has generally grown more slowly, at times creating increased congestion on key freight transportation corridors.  This increase in demand requires transportation decision makers to optimize investments and operational strategies to address congestion and reliability. To be able to plan for, improve, and operate the transportation system, there need to be ways to comprehensively monitor mobility. To address these challenges, FHWA and various State Departments of Transportation have developed freight performance measures to monitor the effectiveness of the freight transportation system.  Truck traffic flow information, such as the National Performance Measures Research Data Set (NPMRDS) and other probe data support tools that ways to improve freight transportation efficiency.

This webinar will discuss both FHWA and State Department of Transportation efforts to develop and use tools to measure freight transportation system performance and improve the efficiency of the freight transportation network.

Freight Mobility Trends Overview

This presentation will provide an overview of freight mobility trends around the United States, including identification of the most severe highway freight bottlenecks in the country.

SPEAKER:

Using NPMRDS to Create a Mobility Dashboard Tool

This presentation will discuss how the New York State DOT used NPMRDS and INRIX data to develop a mobility dashboard tool that tracks and measures truck traffic flow patterns within the state of New York.

SPEAKER:

Using State Traffic and INRIX Data to Develop a Truck Congestion Analysis Tool

This presentation will talk about how the Texas Transportation Institute worked with the Texas DOT to create a truck congestion analysis tool that analyzes and monitors truck mobility within Texas using Texas DOT truck traffic data and INRIX data.
