Ports are transportation and commerce hubs that are a critical part of the U.S. economy.  At the same time, they are places where large concentrations of diesel equipment converge – including ships, trucks, rail, and non-road machinery.  Near-port communities that bear the brunt of air pollution from these diesel engines are often comprised of low-income populations and people of color.  EPA’s Ports Initiative provides tools and resources to help port stakeholders identify, prioritize, and implement emissions reduction measures at ports across the U.S.
