Dear all,

There is a new course being offered in Sociology which fits very well with Geography and it is taught by a Geographer (bonus!)!  You will find a pdf of the course description attached, and some additional information below.

cheers, Solange.

Dear All,

I hope you are all doing well. The environmental sociology concentration recently got approval for a new Environmental Justice course--SOCI 361 (3 credits)-- which we are excited to be offering in the fall of 2021.

The course responds to increased and ongoing debates about the intersecting causes of climate change, disasters, uneven distribution of industrial pollution, and social inequality. This new course will examine the historical development and ambitions of environmental justice movements across the world. The course takes an environmental justice framework as an analytical approach for understanding how racialized discrimination, gender, sexual orientation, income, and national origin are intrinsically connected to environmental degradation, climate change, and the failed efforts to create a just and sustainable future for all of earth's inhabitants.

The course has no prerequisites and welcomes students interested in human-environmental relationships from a broad range of backgrounds and majors. Please share this opportunity with your students and distribute the attached flyer to students in your program/department.

Take Care,

Alex
