As you know, in December, TERC got an upgrade and a new name; Peterson’s Test and Career Prep is now live. As I’ve mentioned before, there were a few bugs in the rollout but those should all be resolved by the end of the month. They’ve also been able to update the resources for the SAT and GRE exams.

The goal of the resource is to accommodate users of all ages with a resource for standardized test preparation, researching and selecting college and graduate schools, finding tuition assistance, exploring career paths and more. The resources that are in Peterson’s Career Prep are all available in Peterson’s Test and Career Prep.

Guide patrons and students in a number of areas:

Test prep—Full-length, timed, and free practice exams that simulate the actual testing experience for AP, ACT, SAT, PSAT, GED, HiSET, and TASC exams. Diagnostic pre-tests help students determine where they stand and how much test prep they need before taking an assessment.
College planning—Intuitive searches and quick results deliver prospective students information on more than 4,000 accredited schools, including college location, tuition, academics, admission or enrollment requirements, college campus life, and much more.
Financial aid tools—Students and parents can benefit from applying the undergraduate scholarship search, financial aid award analyzer, college savings calculator, tuition cost finder, and more.
Career development—The VisualCV Resume Creator and Virtual Careers Library tools assist students in the career development process by building on essential skills—like how to build a resume, cover letter, and interviewing tips for users at all career stages.
International tools—Help students and library patrons prep to pass the TOEFL (iBT), TOEFL (PBT), TOEIC, and U.S. Citizenship tests with online resources like practice tests and eBooks.

Equip job seekers with:

Career Assessments—Four in-depth assessments align to the interests, values, personality, and workplace preferences of the user. Assessment results drive personalized career recommendations.
Career Overviews—Each career type includes recommended degree programs, knowledge, skills, and ability. Users can also determine the projected salary and career outlook and access links to training and job searches.
Occupational Database—Access to the Occupational Information Network (O*NET), a database developed for the U.S. Department of Labor with more than 1,100 occupational types, allows users to search for key information on a specific career path.
Job Search—The job search tool is powered by Indeed.com. Job listings are sourced from Indeed and are updated daily. Users can limit results to employment type (e.g., internship, part-time, full-time).
Résumé Editing Tool—VisualCV Resume Creator allows users to create visually interesting résumés, cover letters, and websites that can be externally shared with prospective employers, using prebuilt templates. Sample résumés help users target their résumés for different job types.

Are there new MARC records?

Peterson’s Test and Career Prep has MARC records for ebooks and hubs that can be updated. They can be downloaded at https://support.gale.com/marc/.

The MARC record for Peterson’s Career Prep is just for the database itself.

Do I need to list both Peterson’s Test and Career Prep and Peterson’s Career Prep?

It depends on your users. After the retirement of Career Transitions, the career portions of Peterson’s products were made into a standalone tool to help job seekers have a place to create resumes, do a career assessment and learn more about changing careers. Once the update to interface of Peterson’s Test and Career Prep were made, both Test and Career Prep and the standalone Career Prep have the same functionality. If you have a large population of job seekers that need a streamlined tool for resumes and job seeking, Peterson’s Career Prep has less content to navigate around. If you only want to list one resource and devote your training energies, list Peterson’s Test and Career Prep.

Users that use both resources will have to create an account for both. If they use their email as their username, their activity should be mapped across the resources particularly for the career assessment and resumes.

I want to put links to specific tests for resources, can I do this?

There are Hub links that will bring your patrons to specific topics and features within the database. Users will still need to login with a free account, but it cuts back on the number of click to get to a specific test. If you want to use the TEL Portal URLs for the Hub pages, see Excel attachment.

Are there marketing materials available?

Yes, Gale has a number of templates, one sheets and social media posts that can be downloaded - https://support.gale.com/marketing/browse/ptcp. They are still working on some short video tutorials for different features.

I want to share this with my teachers/homeschoolers/students, what can I use?

I’ve attached some basic slides that can modified for your teachers. Short video tutorials will be posted on https://support.gale.com/training/videos/ soon. Gale has some templates for email communications to students, teachers found on the Physical marketing materials will most likely not be available until the summer.

How to spread the word?

Send a press release to your local paper. Create a short videos on your website (counts toward virtual training!). Use social media posts to inform parents (facebook) and students (Instagram). Add the flyers (attached) to your curbside pick ups.
