The
Board of Directors of Tenn-Share seek a forward-looking, dynamic Executive Director to run a multi-type statewide library consortium. Tenn-Share serves its member libraries by negotiating discounts, supporting collaborative projects, holding an annual conference
and vendor fair, and advocating for libraries. The Executive Director oversees all these activities. See the full job description below.
The Executive Director is full time, exempt. Salary range $60,000 - $70,000, commensurate with experience.
The Tenn-Share office is maintained in the home of the Executive Director; a monthly stipend covers the expense of telephone and Internet access. There is no expectation of face to face business or meetings in the home.

Specific responsibilities:
Supervise
all Tenn-Share operations
- Develop operations guidelines and controls; provide administrative leadership to ensure that Tenn-Share maintains strong fiscal, ethical and professional standards
- Maintain a procedures manual directing the work of board members, staff, and volunteers
- Hire other Tenn-Share staff subject to approval of the Executive Committee; train, supervise, and evaluate staff
Facilitate
and cooperate with the Board
- Act as a resource and professional advisor to Board of Directors so that policy decisions on all aspects of the organizations activities are well-informed
- Create and implement a Board development plan including recruitment, training, and accountability
- Propose policies for Board of Directors’ approval; administer approved policies
- Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
Advance
Tenn-Share’s public relations
- Serve as chief liaison with Tenn-Share member libraries, vendors, sponsors, lawmakers, other organizations and key constituents
- Develop and provide information about Tenn-Share’s goals, projects and services
- Build collaborative relations with other organizations
- Be active in regional/national issues affecting Tenn-Share members, increasing Tenn-Share’s visibility
Provide
day-to-day support for Tenn-Share programs
- Provide member support: the Executive Director is the primary contact for the organization and provides the first line of support for all inquiries from member libraries.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors: The Executive Director secures discounts on databases and services for member libraries.
- Plan conferences and meetings: The Executive Director is responsible for the planning and event logistics of an annual vendor fair and membership conference. The executive director plans each Board meeting.
- Handle honors and awards materials (calls for nominations, submissions, and prizes) as requested.
- Maintain and assure the accuracy of the records of the organization.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership qualities including the ability to build teams, delegate tasks and execute plans
- Experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, communications, and evaluation
- Strong organizational, financial, interpersonal and analytical skills
- Strong computer skills including productivity suite, desktop publishing, and social media
- Must reside in Tennessee
Preferred Qualifications:
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school and supervisory experience in an academic, public, school or special library
- Familiarity with library consortia issues
- Experience in negotiating contracts and licenses
- Experience in the nonprofit sector
