Procedure Coordinator / Technical Writer



POSITION SUMMARY:  Represent the TWPC management team by supporting the vision, mission, and strategic objectives established to best serve our client.  Lead by example in all aspects of performance, safety, policies, and guidelines. 

Process document revision requests.  Review each document submitted for revision, review documents for format and grammar to ensure compliance with existing procedures; perform minor edits.  Finalize controlled documents and forms for issue.  Maintain document tracking system.  Maintain document archive via electronic data storage system.  Support archive users by performing database searches and file retrieval.  Scan documentation supporting the review process.  Represent Document Control and Records Management on project teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Works collaboratively with stakeholders to edit and format technical procedures and other documents, assisting team members as needed
  • Ensures that material is correctly organized and exhibits proper grammar, spelling, word choice, and idioms; logical, and internally consistent
  • Edit, format, and proof documents for grammar, content, and design in accordance with site guidelines and templates
  • Prepare electronic document templates
  • Manage, track, scan, organize, and maintain documents adhering to the site’s procedures
  • Scan documents, update procedures, and write documents using Microsoft Word
  • Facilitate and track document revisions using an electronic database workflow
  • Create and assign new document numbers
  • Ensure the latest revisions of documents are readily available for use
  • Interface with departments to ensure documents are completed in a timely manner to meet schedule delivery dates
  • Train personnel to procedure revision processes
  • Ensure reference information is valid and correct
  • Helps to develop and maintain document standards
  • Actively seeks out opportunities for improving and standardizing team processes

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Preferred:Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Technical Communications, or a related publications field plus one year of experience.
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in technical writing and editing skills normally acquired through specialized education/training in English, technical communications, or journalism.

     

    Experience:  

  • 1 year related experience in technical writing, document editing or similar role.
    • Prefer 2 years related experience at a nuclear or industrial site.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to effectively communicate with project team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and proper use of syntax, composition, and style.
  • Must be proactive, use individual initiative, follow tasks through to completion, be attentive to detail, produce quality products and adhere to tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent project requests and/or changing priorities.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and exercise a high degree of individual discretion, diplomacy, and judgement.
  • Knowledge of procedure development skills that may be specific to or across various disciplines of administrative policies, engineering, procurement, construction, startup and/or operations.
  • Ability to review, format, and edit content to professional standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related guides, procedures, and requirements.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Familiar with producing nuclear safety documentation.
  • Familiar with scientific/engineering principles and terminology related to engineering for nuclear facility components, systems, design, and operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.

 

Computer Skills:  Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Internet Navigation

Other Skills/Abilities: Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate DOE credentials.

Other:  Ability to prioritize, manage time, multitask, and troubleshoot.  Strong interpersonal communication skills and customer service skills are essential.  Must be computer savvy and well-versed in Microsoft Office products.  Some knowledge of terminology in the engineering field is preferred.  Flexibility to work independently within prescribed guidelines, and alternately as a team member is essential..

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to wear personal protective and safety equipment.  This equipment includes, but is not limited to, safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.  The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, ladders, and stand for extended periods of time.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
