Subject: [EXTERNAL] [Versousers] VERSO Maintenance Release - Thursday December 3 2020 - 7pm Pacific, 10pm Eastern

Verso Users,

We will be doing a maintenance release on Thursday, December 3, 2020, beginning a little after 7:00pm Pacific (10:00pm Eastern). Downtime is planned for 15 minutes but may be longer if issues come up.

We want to make you aware of a small, temporary message that may appear on your VERSO results screen, effective with Thursday’s release. The message is small and unobtrusive, but it is new, and your patrons may have questions.

Why?

Development has been doing a lot of work this month to improve search performance and speed.   As a result, in the 12/3 release, search results will come back faster, and, in combination with the “Did You Mean” improvements from the last release, will present better and more focused results.

What you may see:

If a search takes longer that 3-5 seconds to return results, you will see this message on your screen, even though most of you are only searching one database – your own library:

[Note:  in my testing on our QA sites, I didn’t see the new message when searching in a single library’s database.  I did see it when doing Z39.50 searching with several databases.   So – you and your patrons will see this rarely, if at all.]

How long will that message appear?

This “searching <x> resource” message is temporary as we complete some additional search improvements.  The message will be removed when the search improvement work is completed in January.
