Resources for Homeschooling Families

There are foreign language requirements for homeschooling families. Depending on the umbrella school, some of the more popular languages have enough elementary and structured courses to count towards the language requires. Transparent Language has put together some information about how to sequence the lessons along with content/hours to make it easier for families to evaluate and use Transparent Language for that purpose.

Spanish for Librarians

Want to learn some Spanish to better communicate with your Spanish speaking patrons? Transparent Language has 4 dialogue-based lessons to prepare librarians for basic library functions in Spanish, including getting a library card, checking out materials, providing computer services, and answering phone calls. Each lesson has about 10 new vocab items (words, phrases, and sentences) and takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. You will need to create a free account first!

Here is what is included in the first of 4 lessons:

Lesson 1 - Acquire basic Spanish vocabulary relating to:

Exchanging pleasantries and greetings
Signing up for a library card
Checking out and returning library materials

Transparent Language has added some short videos: https://home.transparent.com/library-marketing-kit/social#videos (these videos are specifically sized for Facebook and Twitter). You can click the “download” button to download a copy and then upload them to Facebook and/or Twitter and share!
Our social media team also recommended that TEL and any libraries in TN should follow Transparent Language on Twitter and then DM us on Twitter and asked to be added our library group where we share social media promo updates. This is a great way for libraries to get new marketing materials sent to them directly! We usually send out a message to our list on Twitter once a month with things to share. https://twitter.com/TLILanguages
