MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or

Anticipated receipt of a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Forestry or a related field from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement.

NOTE: Applicants in this category will not be appointed until they have acquired and provide final proof of receiving the required degree.  A bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in Forestry or a related field obtained outside the United States must either: 1) be obtained from a Society of American Foresters accredited college or university; or 2) curriculum must include at least two (2) of the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration or Forest Management.  NOTE: Applicants will provide an academic equivalency evaluation obtained in the United States showing the required courses.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate to frequent travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

NOTES:

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $17.45 - $22.00 hourly.

JOB DUTIES:

This is a highly technical position with field and administrative responsibilities. The incumbent in this position is responsible for coordinating and conducting fieldwork and outreach associated with impacts to private forest lands as the result of Hurricane Michael. The incumbent serves as a primary link between the Florida Forest Service State Office, field foresters and private non-industrial forest landowners in the hurricane impact area.

Provides forest management technical assistance to rural private forest landowners in the implementation of state and federal cost-share programs. Informs landowners about recovery assistance programs, financial assistance programs, and technical guidance opportunities and provides enrollment guidance. Develops planting and reforestation plans to meet assistance programs requirements.

Coordinates with both state lands and county foresters to conduct timber loss determination assessments on assigned parcels of the Hurricane Michael Florida Timber Recovery Block Grant, including on-site assessment of damage (timber plots and cruises) and post-processing of data.

Identifies priority areas and landowners for outreach and assistance and educates landowners and the public about forest management and the Forest Stewardship Program. Develops Forest Stewardship plans with recovery/resilience components for interested landowners.

Assists in the management of project data collection and completion of state and federal reporting.

Performs other duties as assigned.
