Dear Grads and Undergrads,

I am yet to out the readings list together, and design a flyer -- However, I want to inform you that I will be offering a seminar in urban economic geography in SP21 (Geog 641) that will be taught Mondays 6 pm to 8:30 pm. The focus this term will be Gender and Ethnic Economy Disparity -- Linking the Developed and the Developing World.

Some of the major outlines will cover:
1) the data sources and methods that can be applied to measure economic inequality (or other types of inequalities),
2) Defining Gender/Ethnic Econ Inequality, and the intersectionalities -- in the Developed and Developing world
3) Theoretical framing of economic (and social) inequalities -- Developed and Developing world
4) How and why should we apply and address gender disparity in 21st century? Empirical studies and focus done so far
5) Case studies from across the world

Method of teaching: In the 1st few weeks of the term, I will deliver some lectures to cover the data, methods, etc..  Thereafter, the class will be taught through student-led weekly discussions-based mode.  The readings list will be created during December and shared with the enrolled students via canvas.
No text book is required.

I will share the flyer toward the end of this month.
Human Geog Grad students: I urge all graduate students, especially the human geog students with larger interest in gender/ethnic inequalities to consider this course.
Undergrad students, if you have interest in this class, please contact me ([log in to unmask]) and I can share details of how/what course numbers you could take to benefit from this course.

More detailed list of topics will follow later this month --

Thanks

Madhuri
