Hi -
As a follow up to last week's announcement about LRC, here is some additional information about LRC, its contents and options going forward. Please keep your questions, comments and suggestions coming and I'll work to address them as quickly as I can. I've attached our State Librarian Chuck Sherrill's response to a question on the TLA listserv about some of the background about the difficult LRC decision.

There has been a number of name changes. What databases and content are we losing?

  * Gale Literature aka Gale Literary Sources -http://galesupport.com/telGeo/telGeoLink.php?loc=tel_s_tsla&db=GLS

     * This is the cross platform interface that allows you to search all of Gale's Literature resources listed below as well as LitFinder.
  * Gale Literature Resource Center (http://galesupport.com/telGeo/telGeoLink.php?loc=tel_s_tsla&db=LitRC)
     *   Journals & Magazines<https://assets.cengage.com/gale/tlist/additional/litrc_journals-and-magazines.xls>
     *   Reference Resources<https://assets.cengage.com/gale/tlist/additional/litrc_reference-titles.xls>
  * Gale Literature: Scribner Writer Series (http://galesupport.com/telGeo/telGeoLink.php?loc=tel_s_tsla&db=G-Scrib)
     *   Scribner Reference Resources<https://assets.cengage.com/gale/tlist/additional/g-scrib_rt.xlsx>
  *   Gale Literature: Twayne's Author Series (http://galesupport.com/telGeo/telGeoLink.php?loc=tel_s_tsla&db=G-Twayne)
     *   Twayne's Reference Resources<https://assets.cengage.com/gale/tlist/additional/g-twayne_module.xls>

Is the content in LRC available in other databases?
Many of the reference materials are only available in LRC. There are about 500 journals and magazines available in LRC and about 450 are available in other Gale databases. I've attached the crosswalk of the titles and which databases provide access to those publications. Most of those journals are included in Gale Academic OneFile. In Advanced Search, you will still have the ability to search by Name of Work and Person - About.

If you are in K12 and concerned that some of the content Academic OneFile is too mature for certain grade levels, the resources in the In Context databases cover a number of literary works, authors and themes that are aligned to the K12 curriculum.

  * Gale In Context: Middle School<https://go.gale.com/ps/browseCategory?userGroupName=tel_s_tsla&prodId=MSIC&category=Literature&sid=MSIC>
  * Gale In Context: High School<https://go.gale.com/ps/browseCategory?userGroupName=tel_s_tsla&prodId=SUIC&category=Literature+and+the+Arts&sid=SUIC>
  * Gale OneFile: High School Edition<https://go.gale.com/ps/i.do?st=T003&lm=AC~y&searchResultsType=SingleTab&qt=ACID~110317~~RB~366+5&sw=w&ty=as&it=search&sid=STOM&p=STOM&s=Relevance&u=tel_s_tsla&v=2.1&asid=6ebe7695>

The content of LRC was purchased with help of libraries across TN in 2007. Can we have access to the purchased backfiles?
We've requested the digital files for the content that was purchased in 2007. As Gale is also working remotely, we are still figuring out how to get those digital files but I should have them soon. As I haven't seen the state of the files, there is still some investigation to see if there is a way that we can provide those files to the libraries and schools that helped with the costs of the purchased content as well as other TN libraries. More information will be forthcoming once I receive the files and review the original purchase agreement.

Can I request a report of my usage of LRC resources?
If you had previously set up location specific urls for your library, please contact me and I can help run reports on resources used by your school and library to show your LRC use and top title use.

Is there discount pricing options via Tenn-Share?
Tenn-Share is working on some options as we speak. More information will be coming soon.

If you are not a member of Tenn-Share (and their listserv) but are interested in working on other pricing options, please fill out this form and we can have a brainstorming session about options:

Please fill out by 7/28.

I'll keep you posted about any updates on the purchased content and other LRC news. Thanks,
Andrea

Subject: Gale Literature Resource Center access ends August 12th

Good morning -

As of August 12th, the Tennessee Electronic Library (TEL) will no longer provide statewide access to Gale Literature Resource Center<http://galesupport.com/telGeo/telGeoLink.php?loc=tel_s_tsla&db=LitRC> database. This includes access to Gale Literary Sources, Twayne's Authors Series and the Scribner Writer Series. The contract for Gale Literature Resource Center was up for renewal at the end of 2020 but with declining usage and the need for immediate budget tightening, TEL is terminating the contract early.

TEL will still have literature coverage through other databases including Books and Authors, LitFinder and through journals available through Gale General OneFile, Gale Academic OneFile, Gale in Context: Middle School and Gale in Context: High School.

Thank you for your support of TEL. TEL will continue to provide access to its core research areas including academic databases, encyclopedias, test prep resources, TN records and news resources. We are actively assessing our budget and usage to continue to provide Tennesseans with online access to the best materials.

If Gale Literature Resource Center is essential to your school, library or university, please contact your Gale sales rep or Hilary Fox at [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.

Please let me know if you have any questions and concerns.

Thanks,
Andrea
