To Tennessee Librarians,

You have probably heard about the CARES act which Congress passed to provide COVID-19 relief and stimulus funding. Tennessee libraries have benefitted from that act and we are offering grants of up to $20,000 per library system for the following items:

Secretary of State Tre Hargett and the Tennessee State Library and Archives are pleased to provide a grant opportunity to all public libraries across Tennessee. This grant is provided by the U. S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. The CARES Grant is intended for public libraries to provide services to your staff and community.

A project total of $440,000.00 in grant funds are available for. Acknowledging the difficulties in budgeting at this time, this grant does not require a local match in order to apply.  The grant itself will run from April 21, 2020 – May 31, 2021, so that purchases (such as masks and cleaning supplies) made as early as April 21 will be eligible for reimbursement.

Applications will be open until June 15, 2020, and the application form is attached. If you have questions, please consult with your regional library staff or Jennifer Cowan-Henderson at the State Library & Archives.

Sincerely,

Chuck Sherrill

Tennessee State Librarian & Archivist
