[External Email] Registration is now available for the May 20 Talking Freight Seminar. ******************************************************************************************************************************************** Date/Time: May 20, 2020 1:00 - 2:30 pm ET Topic: SHRP2 C20 Project Spotlight: The Development And Implementation of a Ten County Freight Model Registration: https://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/fpd/talking_freight/index.htm Description and Presentations: transportation professionals, many states and regional planning organizations are taking steps to better understand and improve the freight data available within their jurisdictions. To support those initiatives, FHWA, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) created the second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Freight Demand Modeling and Data Improvement (C20) program to facilitate the development of improved freight data sets and freight modeling practices at the state, regional, and local levels. One of the projects that received funding as part of the SHRP2 C20 program, focused on the North Carolina Piedmont Triad region and administered by the city of Winston-Salem, brought together the ten county Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART), four MPOs in the region (Burlington-Graham, Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem), and the North Carolina DOT to create an Advanced Freight Model as part of PART's Piedmont Triad Regional Travel Demand Model. The Advanced Freight Model was developed in three phases, focused on 1) freight facility identification, 2) the creation and integration of the freight model into the broader regional travel demand model, and 3) updating and refining the model by collecting updated data. This webinar will provide an overview of all three steps in the process, including the insights gained and challenges encountered in the development of the regional Advanced Freight Model. It will also include discussion about the coordination that took place between the North Carolina DOT, regional transportation organizations, and local municipalities that participated in the project. Regional Freight Model Coordination Between State and Regional Transportation Organizations This presentation will provide an overview of the Piedmont Triad Advanced Freight Model and focus on the coordination efforts that took place between PART, the four MPOs, and the North Carolina DOT in identifying and collecting the key data used to develop the freight model.
