Cathy and Jill  -

Just  remember that old maxim,
“The sound you hear in the back of your head while making plans is that of God laughing.”

And keep plenty of elevating medication close at hand:

It seems the middle of my message got dropped - my apologies.  The message in its entirety is below:

Please bear with me - this is a lengthy email with lots of details. And a warning - If you email me with a question that was covered in this email, I will probably respond by asking you to read the email.

After several meetings and many negotiations, this past Friday, the TLA Conference was rescheduled for May 5-7. Two days later, the CDC issued a guidance asking for group gatherings of 50 or more be canceled or postponed for eight weeks.  May 5 - 7 falls in Week 8 of this projection.  Ugh. As we wait for directives, this is what I can tell you.  FOR NOW, we are sticking to this postponed plan. THIS PLAN MAY CHANGE -  It may change more than once,  Our goal is to keep you safe while having a great learning event and the plan will change as many times as possible to make that happen.

If we are able to stick with the May plan, all programs and events will happen in the same day of the week as originally scheduled, just different dates on the calendar.

More details:
*Hotel reservations are automatically rolled forward to the new dates.
*Registration is rolled forward to the new dates.
^Presentations are rolled forward to the new dates.
*Vendors are rolled forward to the new dates.
*Honors and awards are rolled forward...
(Do you see a pattern yet?)

Even more details:
If you had an arrangement with an outside group for your registration (like UT-SIS students), be patient and wait to hear from that group. TLA does not make decisions for those groups.

So Cathy, what do I do??
For now, you do nothing.  We wait and see what happens next.  Unfortunately, that is the best I can do.

Refunds - the short answer is the TLA Conference does not have a refund policy because the conference does not give refunds.  This is a small Association and quite honestly, we cannot absorb this much of a financial loss.

Our goal is to see you all on the other side of this mess, in great health with lovely smiles and this present crisis over. I regret that I cannot answer many questions now, but the truth is I do not know the answers.  This is an incredibly stressful time for us all.

For now, be safe, take reasonable precautions, and think of others. Be the guiding lights your community needs to see. Grant kindness wherever you can.
