Funded MA in Geography at West Virginia University

 

Pipelines in Appalachia. Economic, social and environmental consequences of gas extraction and distribution in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. (Masters) – Deadline: April 10th 5pm ET.

 

Dr. Caretta is seeking a Master student with research interests in resource extraction, energy infrastructures, environmental and social justice.  The graduate students will be part of the Hydrofeminist lab and work on a field-based project to analyze the economic, social and environmental consequences of gas extraction and distribution in the tri-state area (West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania). Notably, this project is grounded on a collaboration with the Ohio River Valley Environmental Coalition – OVEC. 

Candidates with an undergraduate degree in geography, environmental science, anthropology, sociology, natural resource management or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply.  A background in mixed and/or qualitative methods is preferable. Willingness to carry out field-work research projects is required. Potential candidates should demonstrate an ability and willingness to collaboratively conduct tasks such as: literature reviews, research design, field-based data collection and analysis (e.g. surveys, focus groups, and participant observation), community-oriented science communication and writing high quality peer-reviewed manuscripts. Funding includes a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and health benefits. Funding for second year dependent on performance. The Geography Program at WVU
