Dear Geographers and Sustainers,

Professor Megan Walsh of Central Washington University has shared information about the Cultural and Environmental Resource Management Graduate Program<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cwu.edu%2Fresource-management%2Fresource-management-program&data=02%7C01%7Cmegan.walsh%40cwu.edu%7Cb2eac94f39824edf92c708d7a3865d67%7Cf891d6c191d6444ba700d371910716c7%7C0%7C0%7C637157669804981251&sdata=3Wezp5eX3PW%2FlQxrYVUHDR6fm7wd%2BtEeP8HQx5knDX0%3D&reserved=0> at her University.

The application deadline has been extended until February 28, so if you are interested in getting an MS degree and maybe didn't make some other, earlier deadlines -- or if this very cool program sounds better than the ones to which you already applied -- then get your application in! Dr. Walsh told me that they have funding available, which means that you would in the best case have your tuition paid by the University and earn a salary. So what are you waiting for, give it a shot!

Dr. Walsh is especially interested in recruiting a student who would want to work with her on the analysis of sediment cores from Belize (yes, she and I both have projects involving mud in Belizean lakes). But students with other interests can apply to work with other professors, see the attached PDF for faculty interests.

This program looks to have many components that would be of interest to geography and sustainability majors in our program. If you have questions about graduate school, talk with your advisor or course instructors. Our graduate students are often also very happy to explain graduate school stuff to undergrads!

OK here's the blurb that goes with the PDF:

The program integrates faculty and course work from Geography, Anthropology, and Economics to develop research on issues related to cultural and natural resource management, environmental change, and policy.

Geography faculty conduct on-going research in paleoecology, geomorphology, hydrology, conservation and land management, energy, transportation and human geography, GIScience, and critical cartography (please see attachment). Faculty work with and mentor students to complete original thesis research<https://nam01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cwu.edu%2Fresource-management%2Fthesis-titles&data=02%7C01%7Cmegan.walsh%40cwu.edu%7Cb2eac94f39824edf92c708d7a3865d67%7Cf891d6c191d6444ba700d371910716c7%7C0%7C0%7C637157669804991242&sdata=wkelMFKPxCZa8FAjD0lprS0jD2tp06p0UzmPx02odwU%3D&reserved=0> with a strong emphasis on fieldwork and/or collaboration with cultural and natural resource agencies or Tribal organizations.
