Position Title: Research/Learning Services Librarian, Assistant Professor, The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, Knoxville, TN.

The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, Preston Medical Library in Knoxville, TN is accepting applications for a full-time Research and Learning Services Librarian /Assistant Professor.

 

This faculty position provides medical reference services in the library and clinical setting. Working with assigned departments, the librarian determines information requirements and plans the delivery of services to support evidence-based practice. This may include attending rounds, department meetings, or other forums. This position will represent the library on Magnet Nursing shared governance councils by attending meetings and offering other support to nursing staff. Expert searching of medical and nursing literature using a variety of sources is done as part of general reference services and as part of a systemic review service. Other reference services provided include staffing the reference desk, developing and teaching education programs, developing research guides and core collections, using reference software, maintaining reference statistics, promoting scholarly communications and guiding faculty in the evaluation of publication metrics.

 

This position also provides outreach to the community and information for the Consumer and Patient Health Information Service. This position initiates and participates in research and scholarly activities and will participate in medical library professional organizations locally, regionally, and nationally. Other library duties may be required as needed.

 

Additionally, this position will assist in mentoring and training graduate research assistants and library student assistants as needed. Other duties include developing education programs to support LCME and ACGME curriculum, integrating information literacy and health literacy into the curriculum, teaching consumer health information resources to community groups and other library partners, participating in library and information science research and biomedical research related to information and consumer health literacy.


 

Qualifications

 

Master of Science in Information Science from an ALA-accredited school

Medical Library Association Academy of Health Information Professionals credentialing within six months of hire.

Minimum of 3-5 years as health sciences librarian

 

Specialty Skills

Reference, instruction, database searching, systematic reviews, scholarly communication, consumer health, academic health sciences or hospital librarianship

 

Background or experience

Comprehensive knowledge of library reference sources and strong database searching skills including the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed and CINAHL. Strong service orientation, self-motivation, flexibility, and the ability to multi-task. Experience designing and teaching library instruction classes and developing supporting materials. Demonstrated analytical, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a clinical or hospital setting as a clinical liaison librarian. Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and working with health consumers. Teaching experience with graduate students in the health sciences. Training and experience with systematic review methodologies. Experience with publication metrics services or scholarly communications. Experience with health sciences collection development.
