Dear All:

Hope you had a relaxing and wonderful break!  We will have our biweekly meetings of learning programming skills in Spring 2020 again.  Dr. Cheng Liu, who received his Ph.D. from our department and recently retired from ORNL, will kick off this semester’s biweekly meetings at 2:30 -4:00 PM on Friday, January 10, 2020 in Burchfiel Geography Building, room 404.  Dr. Liu will share with us Web GIS programming using JavaScript through several projects he developed before.  He also plans to include some hands-on exercises.

Later on this semester, our plan is to have Dr. Bruce Ralston lead us on learning Scalar (https://scalar.me/anvc/scalar/), which is “a free, open source authoring and publishing platform that’s designed to make it easy for authors to write long-form, born-digital scholarship online. Scalar enables users to assemble media from multiple sources and juxtapose them with their own writing in a variety of ways, with minimal technical expertise required.”

These biweekly meetings are free and everyone is welcome to join us.  Please feel free to distribute this announcement to people who may be interested in it.  We look forward to seeing you at 2:30 PM this Friday in BGB 404.

Cheers,

Shih-Lung
